Founded under Louis XIV in 1650, the Hotel-Dieu de Baugé accepts poor and indigent people. The Sisters Hospitalières de Saint Joseph provide them with both bodily and spiritual care for 350 years.
How did our ancestors take care of themselves under Louis XIV, during the Revolution, before World War I or in the 60's? The Hotel-Dieu de Baugé has gone through all these periods. It tells an exciting story... That of health.

Classified as a historical monument, the apothecary of the Hotel-Dieu de Baugé, opened in 1675, contains a collection of over 650 pots and boxes, one of the richest of its time. Their mysterious names will amuse both children and adults: dragon's blood, crayfish eyes, crab lice powder... authentic remedies from that era!
