Paleontology:
This museum section showcases rocks that shape the current landscape, with a particular emphasis on Oligocene limestone (dating back to -30 million years). These layers contain remains of animals (for example, the Bachitherium from the Tertiary) and meticulously fossilized plants, leading to their classification as a geological nature reserve.
Prehistory:
The exhibition dedicated to prehistory illustrates the life of flint knappers in the Largue valley. About 120,000 years ago, at the foot of Vachères, ancient inhabitants exploited rich flint deposits essential for tool and hunting weapon creation and defense. During the final Neolithic period, the extraction and shaping of flint reached remarkable technical sophistication.
